Distillation
Lots of distilling has already taken place in our distillery. It is a slow process involving an initial rough distillation followed by a fine distillation. The alcohol really does come out of the still drop by drop. Marnix trained at Geurt Van Rennes in the Jenever Museum in Schiedam.
During the early stages of the Covid pandemic, we made a difference for the Bravis hospitals in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom. There was a severe shortage of disinfectant alcohol for the ventilators.
The idea was to distil alcohol from wine. We put out a call on social media asking people to send us their bad wines. We received a massive amount of wine, which we opened and emptied with the help of volunteers. The operation took place outdoors in the fresh air, as it was very important at the time to maintain a distance of 1.5 metres! The hospital was very grateful for our voluntary help. We delivered a total of more than 80 litres.
Every harvest season, we make the most of our by-products by turning the grape pressings – namely the skins, stems and seeds – into a smooth and fruity spirit. Toerlezjoere is an exclusive spirit (45%) produced according to a well-known Italian recipe. We have just around forty uniquely numbered bottles available for sale each year.
